Lucifer and its frames

The main reason behind Lucifer’s great repeat value is its superior picturization quality , the perfection Prithviraj Sukumaran achieved behind most of his frames and detailing that you notice in subsequent viewings.

As Lucifer turns one year, few of my favorite frames from the movie and why it stands out:

Vivek Oberoi in Lucifer
Prithviraj establishing in beginning itself that his villain- “Bobby” has depth and is vulnerable in this frame.
Image may contain: one or more people and indoor
Prithviraj shows us the books Govardhan read and a photo frame of his family quickly for a moment, before introducing Govardhan. Photo frames have lot of importance throughout the movie
Byju in Lucifer
Prithviraj gave us hint on which side Murugan might be on early, but we may not have noticed.
Image may contain: one or more people and people standing, possible text that says 'POLICE POLIC'
This opening of barriers with the accompanying BGM is a technique that works to add impact to a mass scene.
Image may contain: 1 person, beard and closeup
How all the cameras on screen quickly turns and Adil says “Stephen” – another technique to amplify the scene.
Image may contain: 6 people, including Anij John, people sitting, people standing and outdoor
Police charging towards the people while Stephen is unperturbed – Yet another technique.
Image may contain: one or more people
Murugan unfolding his mundu – was not fear or respect. It was because of loyalty which you would learn later.
Mohanlal in Lucifer
Now another frame on how to get the maximum output with a superstar
Image may contain: one or more people, crowd, ocean, sky and outdoor
Prithviraj’s ambition for big scale visuals visible in this frame.
Mohanlal and Vivek Oberoi in Lucifer
Prithviraj doesn’t have his villain and hero together in many frames, but whatever little time he gets, he gets it right.
Image may contain: Joson Aj, sitting, standing, beard and indoor
Prithviraj’s liking towards centering his frames.
Image may contain: one or more people and indoor
Meanwhile talking about centering , look at these frames – First as a kid in the church. Second when he reaches at the funeral to pay final respects to PK Ramdas
Subhash Chandra Bose on the background when Stephen gives his perspective of what a war is!
Did you notice the first time that when Stephen kisses the baby and names him Vinayakan, the baby’s father smiles in the background ?
Prithviraj using the reactions of his characters to his benefit while making the phenomenal “Stephen Nammal vicharicha alalla Sir” sequence
Image may contain: 1 person, beard, phone and closeup
“Calm before the storm” – An unmoved Stephen calmly counting the people around before he moves swiftly on his next action
Image may contain: Abijith Sajeevan, beard
One of my favorite shots from the entire movie !
Image may contain: one or more people, people standing, tree, outdoor and nature
Another favorite shot – Stephen throwing the gun and its parts to either side in style\
Image may contain: 1 person, standing
Tribute to Olympian Anthony Adam’s shot done right !
Image may contain: sky, cloud, outdoor and nature
Prithviraj gets all his explosion scenes right. There is no compromise on production quality in any frame of this movie !
Image may contain: 1 person, standing, sky, tree, outdoor and nature
Prithviraj does want his frames unique wherever possible !
Image may contain: one or more people, outdoor and closeup
A speech acted, directed and picturized – all superbly !
Image may contain: 2 people, including Arun Ramagiri, closeup
And not before giving away one more expression of Murugan that you would dissect later.
Image may contain: 1 person, beard and closeup
Love this shot from the jail fight – another well choreographed stunt scene playing to Mohanlal’s strengths !
Image may contain: Vibin Nath, closeup
Prithviraj allows camera few moments to capture what a phenomenal actress Manju Warrier is in this hospital scene
Image may contain: 1 person, outdoor
Prithviraj’s stubbornness to have precise frames even for normal scenes
No photo description available.
Mayilvahanam seeing this terrific shot through his blurry eyes. And Stephen is about to unleash his beast starting this shot!
Image may contain: one or more people and indoor
Didn’t I tell earlier that Prithviraj like to center his frames precisely well ?
Image may contain: one or more people and screen
I told earlier that photo frames have quite importance in this movie. Prithviraj showing us the photo frame of Priyadarshini and her daughter with her deceased ex-husband before she orders to kill off Bobby.
