Odiyan Malayalam Movie Short Review

Watched Odiyan. Apart from the fact that this movie is wrongly marketed and belongs to a different genre that it was showcased, my main problem was that the screenplay had strong similarity to Chandrolsavam. The Mohanlal-Manju Warrier-Prakash Raj angle, settings , major plot points all looked a straight lift from Chandrolsavam with just Odiyan skills added here. At one point, when Manickyan(Mohanlal) tells Prabha (Manju Warrier) – ” Kure alanju”, I almost felt he would also add – ” Oraale pole ezhu perundennokke parayunnathu verutheya”

Mohanlal in Odiyan

If beautiful dialogues were the USP for Chandrolsavam, here they are overdramatic and misplaced at many places. When Mohanlal tells about his voes and plan for revenge at one place, Manju Warrier takes a pause and replies – ” Kurachu kanji edukatte”. It would have been ideal if Manickyan also asked back- ” Ninnodu njan kanji chodicho Prabhe?!”.

The much hyped climax flight falls flat and it is shocking from Peter Hein. Because he had done such great job with Pulimurugan’s last fight which had fine clarity and where Mohanlal’s efforts were visible. Here it is all haze especially since it happens at night.

Only positives are background score by Sam C.S and performances by Mohanlal and Manju Warrier. You could see Mohanlal did invest a lot in this project. Odiyan is disappointing.
